Hail Damage Repair in Rossmoor
Hail can leave a roof looking fine from the driveway while the shingles underneath are bruised and shedding granules. We check every slope by hand, photograph what we find and tell you plainly whether a repair or a new roof is the better use of your money.

What Hail Does to a Roof, and When to Have It Looked At
Hail does not often reach Southern California, which is exactly why its damage tends to go unnoticed. A strong winter cell can drop pea-to-marble size ice for a few minutes, and that is enough to crack an aging tile or knock the protective granules off an asphalt shingle. The roof keeps shedding water for now. The trouble shows up a year or two later, when the exposed asphalt bakes in the sun, turns brittle and starts to let water through.
Hail damage repair means finding those weak spots, replacing what is truly damaged and leaving the rest alone. On a younger roof, a targeted repair is usually the right call. On a roof near the end of its life, spending on patches can cost more over the next ten years than a well-planned replacement. We lay out both paths with the numbers side by side so the choice holds up long after the storm is forgotten.
What Our Hail Damage Repair Covers
A slope-by-slope inspection
We walk the roof and mark each hail hit with chalk, checking shingles, tile, ridge caps and flashing. Soft metals like vent caps and gutters show dents clearly, so we use them to judge how hard the hail fell.
Photos you can keep
Every bruise, crack and dent is photographed with a reference so you can see the size and location. Those photos are yours whether or not we do the work.
Shingle and tile replacement
Damaged asphalt shingles are lifted, removed and replaced with matched material, then hand-sealed. Cracked clay or concrete tiles are swapped out and the underlayment beneath them checked before the new tile goes down. As a CertainTeed ShingleMaster contractor, we install shingles to the manufacturer's own standards.
Vents, flashing and gutters
Dented roof vents and bent flashing can hold water or open seams, so we repair or replace them. If the gutters took the brunt, we can handle that work on the same visit through our Gutters service.
Help with your insurance claim
We work directly with your insurance claim, sharing our photos and measurements with the adjuster and walking you through what was found. The adjuster makes the coverage decision; we make sure the roof's condition is clearly on record.
Signs Hail May Have Damaged Your Roof
Granules in the gutters or downspouts
A handful of dark, sand-like grit at the downspout after a storm means shingles lost their coating. That coating is what protects the asphalt from UV.
Dents in vents or gutters
If metal at ground level is pocked, the roof above took the same hits.
Cracked or chipped tiles
Look for fresh, light-colored breaks on tile edges or corners. Older tile becomes brittle and breaks more easily than new.
Dark spots or soft patches on shingles
Round bruises where granules are missing, or spots that feel soft underfoot, mean the shingle mat has been crushed.
A new ceiling stain months later
Hail damage often leaks slowly. A stain that appears well after a storm is worth tracing back to the roof, and our Roof Leak Repair page explains how we do it.
How a Hail Repair Job Runs
- 1
Your call and a roof inspection
Tell us when the storm came through and what you have noticed. We set a time for a free roof inspection and go over every slope, not just the side facing the weather.
- 2
Findings and a written estimate
We sit down with you, show the photos and give you a free written estimate with each line priced. If replacement is the better long-term value, we explain why with the roof's age and remaining life in plain terms.
- 3
Claim support, if you file
If you file a claim, we meet the adjuster on the roof when asked and supply our documentation. You decide whether to file; we never push it.
- 4
Repair day
We are a licensed roofing contractor, CSLB 1092407 (C-39), and we are insured. Our crew protects plants and walkways, replaces the damaged materials and seals everything by hand, then clears nails and debris with a magnet sweep before leaving.
What Moves the Cost of Hail Repair
Hail repairs are priced by the materials that were hit and how much of each, not by a flat fee. A few dented vents cost far less than a slope of bruised shingles. Each item sits on its own line of the written estimate, so it is easy to hold it up against an insurance scope or against waiting a season.
- Roof material
- Asphalt shingles are quicker to replace than clay or concrete tile, which must be handled carefully so neighboring tiles do not crack.
- Matching older materials
- Many homes in the area date to the late 1950s and have been reroofed since, sometimes with shingles now discontinued. Finding a close match can take extra sourcing time.
- How widespread the damage is
- Scattered hits mean spot repairs. Damage across most of a slope often makes replacing that slope, or the whole roof, the better value.
- What is underneath
- Soft decking or worn underlayment found during repair has to be fixed before new material goes on, and we photograph it before adding it to the job.
- Roof age
- A roof with many good years left earns a repair. One near the end of its life may be better served by our Roof Replacement work, and financing is available through Service Finance Company, subject to credit approval.
Hail Damage Questions We Hear
Something not covered here? (562) 553-3846
Does hail really damage roofs in Southern California?
Not often, but it does happen during strong winter storms. Even small hail can strip granules from older shingles or crack brittle tile. The damage is easy to miss from the ground, which is why an inspection after a hail event is worthwhile.
Should I file an insurance claim before or after the inspection?
After is usually better. Our inspection tells you whether there is real hail damage and roughly how much, so you can decide if a claim makes sense. If you do file, we work directly with your claim and share our photos with the adjuster.
Can you replace just the damaged shingles?
Yes, if the hits are confined to a few spots and the shingles around them still have plenty of life. We match color and profile as closely as available material allows. If the roof is older and the hits are scattered across several slopes, we will show you why a larger repair or a replacement may cost less over time.
What if my tile roof was hit?
We replace cracked tiles and check the underlayment beneath, since that layer is what actually keeps water out. Our Tile Roofing page covers how we handle tile in more detail.
